Stock the Bar Freebie for Endless Fun

A well-stocked bar is like the unsung hero of any gathering. Get it now!

I wish I were a minimalist packer. I really do. But decision paralysis is real, and it shows up the second I open a suitcase. If I don’t start early, I end up hauling half my closet around and somehow still feeling like I have nothing to wear.

After years of overpacking, last-minute stress, and unnecessary airport purchases, I finally figured out a system that works. And trust me, after my time as a flight attendant, I’ve seen every packing mistake in the book. If you’re heading out of town this spring, here’s how to make packing painless.

Start Early (Or Pay for It Later)

Packing isn’t something I can just throw together the night before. I have to start early, or I spiral. My system is simple:

  • I handwrite my packing list so I can see everything laid out
  • I print my itinerary and keep it next to my suitcase to plan outfits by activity
  • I commit to one outfit per event instead of packing ten extra “just in case” options

The key? Make sure every outfit has the right bra and underwear. Nothing ruins a perfectly planned outfit like realizing you didn’t pack the right strapless or seamless option.

Need a solid checklist? My Packing Freebie has exactly what to bring for any type of trip—including a list of the things I always forget until it’s too late.

The Toiletries Trick I Learned as a Flight Attendant

The easiest way to avoid a 10 p.m. drugstore run the night before a flight? Keep your toiletries bag packed at all times.

I learned this trick when I was a flight attendant, constantly hopping between cities with no time to repack between trips. Everything had to be stocked and ready to go at a moment’s notice.

To this day, I still do the same thing:

  • I use only travel-size products so everything fits in one compact bag
  • I never unpack my toiletries bag—just restock whatever is running low the second I get home
  • I keep a backup of essentials—because the one time you don’t have Advil, you’ll need it

This means no scrambling, no forgotten essentials, and no last-minute overpacking because I “might need it.” It’s a game-changer.

Things You’ll Forget (But Absolutely Need)

Every time I travel, there’s always one thing I forget that I absolutely need. So now, these items are non-negotiable:

  • The right bra or underwear for every outfit
  • Safety pins and clothes tape—because something always needs fixing
  • A razor and tweezers—you never notice what needs plucking until it’s too late
  • A fanny pack or small crossbody bag—because carrying a huge tote everywhere gets old fast
  • A go-out purse—something smaller for dinner, drinks, or nights out
  • A packable tote bag—for souvenirs, beach days, or the inevitable overflow
  • A stain stick and mini lint roller—because spills and wrinkles don’t care that you’re on vacation

Lay Everything Flat, Then Fold It In

I’ve tried rolling, stuffing, and every other so-called packing hack. Here’s what actually works:

  • Lay everything completely flat instead of rolling
  • Stack outfits in order so you’re not digging through your suitcase every morning
  • Fold in the ends at the end to keep everything compact and prevent shifting

Other rules I live by:

  • Shoes are the enemy of packing light. Wear the bulkiest pair, pack only one extra
  • If it wrinkles easily, it stays home
  • Layering is key. A lightweight sweater does more than five separate tops

Packing Smart for Any Trip

No matter where you’re headed—whether it’s a quick weekend getaway or a long-haul adventure—having a plan for packing will save you stress. The key is to pack efficiently, avoid overpacking, and have essentials ready to go.

Packing should be the easiest part of the trip, not the most stressful. Start early, commit to a list, and keep your toiletries stocked. It’s a game-changer.
