A well-stocked bar is like the unsung hero of any gathering. Get it now!

I’ve always been a green enthusiast. It’s cool, calming, and, let’s be honest, a color that just feels vibrant. If there’s one color that’s carrying the entire year on its back, it’s Green. Think about it:

  • Mardi Gras? Green.
  • St. Patrick’s Day? Green.
  • Easter? Green.
  • Spring in general? Green.
  • Earth Day? Green.
  • Summer? Green (hello, lush gardens and outdoor spaces!).
  • Christmas? Green (it’s the color of the season’s greenery and wreaths).

Pair it with white, and you’ve got the perfect fresh, timeless combo for tablescapes, florals, and any ‘what season even is this?’ gathering.

The Many Shades of Green:

When I was in Ireland, I couldn’t stop noticing how green was everywhere. And I’m not talking about just one shade of green—one patch of land could have over 50 different shades, all working in harmony. From the golf courses to the rolling hills, each green had its own personality. It wasn’t just vibrant—it was layered, complex, and full of depth, creating a landscape that felt alive and ever-changing.

Here are a few shades you might not immediately think of but are totally worth exploring for your home:

  • Pistachio: A light, creamy green with a soft, warm tone. Perfect for spaces that need a subtle, elegant touch.
  • Seafoam: A pale, bluish-green that’s light and refreshing—great for soft accents.
  • Chartreuse: A bright, zesty green that makes a statement. Great for modern, playful spaces.
  • Fern: A medium, earthy green. Think nature and wood—ideal for bringing in natural vibes.
  • Hunter Green: A dark, rich green with a touch of blue. It works wonders in traditional or classic spaces.
  • Basil: This deep, rich green has a bit more warmth than your typical forest green—perfect for kitchens or dining rooms.
  • Teal: A cool mix of green and blue, bringing a sleek, modern vibe to your space.
  • Cucumber: A light, almost yellow-green, refreshing and perfect for spring or summer vibes.
  • Moss: Earthy and grounded, moss green is perfect for that boho or organic feel.
  • Shamrock: A playful, bright green—perfect for subtle pops or fun decor accents.

How to Start Bringing Green into Your Space:

If you’re ready to bring a little of that Irish green into your own home, start by playing with shades and seeing what resonates with your style. Here’s how:

  • Start with Green accessories: A few green throw pillows or a couple of green plants will give you the right amount of pop.
  • Accent walls: If you’re feeling bold, try a deep green accent wall. Pair it with light neutrals to balance it out.
  • Greenery is key: The best way to introduce green is through plants. Whether it’s a few succulents, a large fiddle-leaf fig, or some ivy, plants add texture and bring life into your space.

How to Layer These Shades in Your Home:

So, how do you bring all these different shades of green into your space without it looking like a garden center exploded? It’s about balance and layering.

  • Start with a solid anchor: Pick a darker shade like emerald or kelly and let it ground the space. Think velvet green throw pillows or a rich green sofa.
  • Layer with lighter shades: Bring in moss, fern, or pistachio through throw pillows, blankets, or artwork. These will keep the space from feeling too heavy.
  • Use bold greens sparingly: Chartreuse or cucumber can work as pops of color—think a green vase, lamp, or art piece that stands out without taking over.
  • Mix with neutrals: Green pairs beautifully with whites, browns, and grays. For example, teal with gray furniture looks effortlessly chic.

Ireland’s Landscape and Your Home:

In Ireland, the landscape offers a perfect example of how a variety of green shades work together in harmony. From the perfectly manicured golf courses to the endless rolling hills, one patch of land could have over 50 different shades of green, creating a dynamic and vibrant environment. This is the approach we should take in our homes—layering different shades of green to create depth, richness, and natural beauty.

Autumn and Green:

When we think of autumn, we often picture green, brown, orange, and yellow—a color palette that brings warmth, comfort, and coziness to your home. It’s got that updated 70’s plaid vibe, mixing earthy greens with soft browns and pops of orange and yellow. It’s perfect for layering textures and colors, whether you’re adding it to your tablescape or incorporating it into cozy throws and pillows.

10 Green Accessories to Try:

Looking to add a little more green? Here are 10 accessories that can transform your space:

  1. Candle Tapers – A simple yet elegant way to add a pop of green to your tablescape.
  2. Vases – Green vases can be both functional and decorative, perfect for fresh flowers or as stand-alone pieces.
  3. Picture Frames – Add green-framed artwork or family photos to bring a fresh touch to your walls.
  4. Throw Pillows – Swap out old pillows for green ones to instantly refresh a couch or bed.
  5. Lacquered Furniture – A sleek green lacquered coffee table or side table can elevate a space with a modern twist.
  6. Rugs – A green area rug can bring warmth and comfort to any room while making a bold statement.
  7. Lampshades – Choose a green lamp or lampshade to add color and personality to your lighting.
  8. Baskets – Use green woven baskets for storage or as decorative accents to organize your space.
  9. Wall Art – Incorporate green tones into your walls with framed prints, abstract art, or botanical photography.
  10. Reupholstered Furniture – Think of giving an old chair or sofa a new life with green fabric. My interior designer friend Julie did a stunning green room in my friend Merry’s house in Montauk, and it was fabulous—proof that green works everywhere.

Tying Green into a Tablescape:

When it comes to creating a green-inspired tablescape, the possibilities are endless. Green is versatile and pairs well with almost any other color, allowing you to create everything from bold, vibrant settings to more subtle, nature-inspired vibes. Here’s how you can tie green into your next tablescape:

  • Green Table Linens: Start with a base of green tablecloths, placemats, or napkins. A deep emerald or hunter green will add sophistication, while a lighter sage or mint will bring a fresh, airy feel to your table.
  • Green Centerpiece: Think lush greenery—succulents, ferns, or a mix of both. You can place them in green vases or even green planters for a stunning centerpiece. For a more dramatic look, try a mix of flowers and green foliage arranged in a tall green vase.
  • Plates and Serving Pieces: Incorporate green through your plates, bowls, or serveware. Whether you go for a bold, chartreuse salad plate or a soft, neutral seafoam dinner plate, adding green to your dishware ties in beautifully with the overall design.
  • Glassware: For a subtle touch, choose green glasses—whether it’s for wine, water, or cocktails. This adds a fun pop of color without being overwhelming.
  • Flatware: Don’t forget your flatware! I’ve even got camo flatware, which is a fun way to mix unexpected elements with green for a unique look. Green flatware, or anything that complements the vibe, can make a statement without clashing.
  • Green Accents: Add smaller green accents like candles (green tapers) or green napkin rings to further complement the theme. Green coasters or place card holders can also add extra layers of texture and personality.

A green tablescape brings an inviting, fresh, and nature-filled energy to your table, and because of its versatility, it can be adjusted for any occasion, from a casual brunch to a formal dinner party. The key is to mix different shades of green to create depth, and pair them with neutrals or complementary colors to balance it out.

Whether you’re going full-on emerald or just adding a little pistachio here and there, green is the way to go this season. It’s timeless, it’s versatile, and it’s ready to give your home that fresh, vibrant energy. Just like in Ireland, the more shades of green, the better. Layer them, combine them, and let your space come alive.
