In our family, the perfect margarita is all about keeping it skinny, and Greg has perfected this recipe to a science. With two daughters in their early twenties and a wife who all prefer their margaritas on the lighter side, Greg’s Skinny Margarita has become a staple. It all started at a college parent weekend when Greg, unimpressed by the overly sweet machine mix margaritas, vowed to serve his skinny version the following year. He pulled through, and since then, his skinny margarita has been the biggest demand at the event Light, refreshing, and full of flavor, Greg’s Skinny Margarita is the ultimate crowd-pleaser.
The Perfect Skinny Margarita!
Ingredients
- 4.5 oz Tequila preferably silver or reposado for a smoother taste
- 4.5 oz Freshly squeezed lime juice from about 4-5 medium limes
- 4.5 oz Cointreau or Grand Marnier depending on your preference for flavor
Instructions
- Prepare the Lime Juice: Roll the limes on the countertop with your palm to loosen the juices. Cut the limes in half and use a juicer to extract the juice until you get 4.5 ounces (we cheat & purchase at our neighborhood grocery).
- Mix the Drink: In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice, and Cointreau or Grand Marnier. Fill the shaker with ice until it covers the liquids.
- Shake the Cocktail: Secure the top of the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to mix and chill the drink thoroughly.
- Serve: If you like a salted rim, run a lime wedge around the edge of the glass and dip it in salt. Strain the mixture into a chilled margarita glass for a “straight up” drink or over ice in a rocks glass.
- Garnish and Enjoy: Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge. Serve immediately.
